Do you need some help getting started with your family history research? Not quite sure where to begin or where to look first? I offer a basic research service covering England and Wales intended to get you up and running. I will agree with you in advance how long I will initially spend looking into your roots and I will use the resources available to me to go back as far as I can within that time. Hopefully I will be able to trace several branches of your family back to the early 1800s, and I will then send you a report detailing my findings and will also make suggestions as to where you can go next, which may involve further research on my part, ordering birth, marriage or death certificates, or contacting a county researcher who can look at parish records, wills, etc on your behalf. I have contact details for researchers who work in Bristol, Somerset, Wiltshire, Devon, Dorset, Hampshire and Middlesex.
Charges
I charge £6 per hour for all research and typing up reports. If you would like me to order birth, marriage or death certificates for you I charge a handling fee of £1 to cover postage and time spent ordering the certificate. I'm also happy to liaise with the county researchers I know on your behalf. I will inform you in advance of their charges and will pass on no extra costs other than payment for the time I spend dealing with them.
Please Note
As stated above I can only research families with roots in England and Wales. Sorry, but at present I cannot research your roots in Scotland, Ireland and overseas. You should also be aware that while in most cases I will be able to get back to the early 1800s, sometimes this is not possible. For example sometimes individuals are missing from censuses making it impossible to find out about their ancestry.
