Clevedon Court near Clevedon.
Built by Sir John de Cleveland in the 14th century,
it was acquired in 1709
by Abraham Elton I, a wealthy Bristol merchant. The novelist
William Makepeace Thackeray
wrote much of Vanity Fair while staying here.
It is now in the care of
the National Trust.
